Summer Check-In #2

Panther Band and Guard Family,

I can't believe we're almost in July! I hope everyone is staying as cool as they can while our summer temps continue to inch upwards. Remember to stay hydrated!

  1. Please check the Google Calendar on our band website (https://www.lhpantherband.org/calendar) for updated summer band days/times. We have made some needed adjustments due to some mandatory district- and campus-level professional development we must attend. Keeping an accurate and updated calendar is a high priority for us as a director team and we wanted to communicate these changes out as soon as possible.

  2. ALL students must have a physical and all required forms uploaded to RankOne prior to July 21.

  3. As we continue to get closer towards summer band, please stay on top of your musical and physical preparation. The more prepared we all are when we come together, the faster we'll be able to progress. We have never had the opportunity to be prepared with the entire show prior to summer band - this is huge for us! Try to spend a few minutes a day outside and get in the habit of drinking a LOT of water. Think about what you can do now so we can be successful later.

  4. For instruments with split parts (clarinet, trumpet, low brass) - we have part assignments! Please see this Google Sheet to confirm your part for Full Tilt. Please see part assignments here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rQWJRLUXfVcQFxiUgf1oDgJ7wZJLQcsYm7sXdbTiuys/edit?usp=sharing.

  5. Practice tracks for the entire show are uploaded on the band website! There are multiple tempos for each movement, so everyone can learn our music at an appropriate tempo.

Second, as we draw closer to summer band starting, there are some required materials everyone must have:

  • A pencil pouch with sharpened pencils

  • Athletic shoes for marching (a recommended list is here with an explanation here). Do you need to buy new shoes if you already have athletic shoes? Absolutely not! BUT, understand that Vans, Converse, Crocs, sandals, etc., are not appropriate marching footwear and will end up with injuries to the student. Plan on having appropriate footwear!

  • Compression shorts to be worn under your marching band uniform.

We cannot wait to move into July and host our Marching Leadership Camp, Percussion and Guard Camps, then officially starting summer band later this month! Expect the frequency of emails to increase as we get closer to things starting up.

Students, we have just shy of a month to learn as much as we can before summer band - remember, the work you put in NOW will pay off LATER!

Go Panthers!
